Gabriele Materazzi, MD (Endocrine Surgical Oncology)

Dr. Gabriele Materazzi is Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of Endocrine Surgery Unit at the University of Pisa. Dr. Materazzi received the degree in Medicine and Surgery at University of Pisa in July 1993. And then, Dr. Materazzi worked at the Department of General Surgery II in the Department of Surgery of University of Pisa, with particular interests in endocrine surgery and new minimally invasive techniques developed in this field.
Since February 2002, Dr. Materazzi carried out the operating room as first operator with more than 600 operations per year of endocrine surgery. Dr. Materazzi began his experience with robotic surgery using the Da Vinci Robot performing robotic cholecystectomy, in both “traditional” and “single site” in 2011. In 2012 he obtained a certificate of “da Vinci Surgical System Off-site Training Program for a Console Surgeon” at the University of Paris.
Dr. Materazzi’s principle research interests focus on surgical disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. He has a particular interest in endocrine surgical oncology (thyroid and parathyroid cancer), and novel technologies in endocrine surgery (video-assisted thyroidectomy, transaxillary robotic thyroidectomy), as well as new minimally invasive techniques in his field.
Dr Materazzi is the author of multiple peer-reviewed publications in national and international journals, as well as many book chapters.
