Kazuo Shimizu, MD, PhD (Thyroid & Parathyroid Surgery)

Dr. Kazuo Shimizu graduated from Nippon Medical School after he finished his postgraduate courses in 1978. He was a visiting fellow of Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard University and Department of Surgery, Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Shimizu is now Honorally President of Kanaji Hospital, and the Professor Emeritus of Nippon Hospital.

His research interests lie in Endocrine Surgery and Endoscopic Thyroid & Parathyroid Surgery. He participated in many medical support activities during 1999- 2009, such as “Mass screening for thyroid cancer in children after Chernobyl atomic disaster” in Republic of Belarus, Live demonstration of endoscopic thyroidectomy, Lecture of endocrine surgery at Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University, Egypt, Live demo of endoscopic thyroidectomy and lecture of endoscopic thyroid surgery at Bali, Indonesia and so on. Dr. Shimizu has published over 175 publications in national and international journals. He joined Editorial Board of World Journal of Endocrine Surgery in 2010. He is also an official referee of Endocrine Journal, Endocrine Surgery, Journal of Nippon Medical School, etc. and an invited referee of Journal of Endoscopic Surgery and British Journal of Surgery.

Dr. Shimizu is an active member of International Society of Surgery (ISS), International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES), a board member of International Society of Onco-Plastic Endocrine Surgeons (ISOPES), a council member and congress president of Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AsAES), President of Asian Pacific Endocrine Conference (APEC). He is councilor of many Japanese professional Societies, such as Japan Surgical Society, Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery, and the Executive Director of Japan Association of Endocrine Surgeons, Japan Society of Thyroid Surgery, Endoscopic Endocrine Surgery and Clinical Video Forum.
